World Cup City Daejeon

Located in the heart of the country, Daejeon is a gateway to three southern Provinces of the nation, as well as a transportation hub. Located in the vicinity of Daejeon are Gongju and Buyeo, ancient capitals of the Baekje Kingdom (18 B.C.-A.D. 660), which possess a wide array of cultural and historic sites reflecting the ancient culture of the Baekje people. Moreover, diverse tourist attractions such as Gyeryongsan Mountain National Park are located in the surrounding areas of Daejeon. Daejeon is the most renowned scientific-research city in Korea, which is emerging as one of the world's foremost IT (Information technology) countries. Living up to this reputation, the city is focusing on fostering and developing high-tech and knowledge-intensive industries. Also, Daejeon is the nation's second administrative capital where 1.5 million citizens foster their dreams and hopes for the future.

In addition, Daejeon was a venue of FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan and there was three matches in the daejeon World Cup stadium.

Daejeon has many tourist resorts, such as EXPO park, Yusong Hotsprings, and several golf courses.

Also including Kyeryong Mountain National Park, Daejeon abounds in relics of the ancient civilation-Paekjae.


Yusong Hot Springs Resort

The hot springs of Yusong have long been known for their medicinal benifits. In 1910, a Japanese named Seuzeukistarted to develop the Yusong area as a tourist attraction.
In 1915, Kim Gap-soon, a millionaire from Kongju, completed the development.
The hot springs flow out of granite 285 meters beneath the earth. They are 42¡É ¡­ 55¡É on average and radium rich.
Because of that they have medicinal effects for skin diseases, reuhmatism, neuralgia, and gastric problems.
Yusong Hot Springs Resort is surrounded by lots of tourist attractions including Mt. Keyryongsan National Park, the well-kept National Cemetery, Expo Science Park, Kumdori Land
amusement park, Yusong Country Club, The Stone Bell, Suwoonkyo Shrine, the Stone Image of a Standing Buddha at
Bongsosa temple, Dolmen in Naedong-ri.

Taedok Science Town, a craddle of highly educated minds, covers 900 pyong near Yusong Hot Springs Resort. Chungnam National University is also within the bo-unds of Yusong district.


Kubong Mountion (Autumn leaves)

This mountain has the legend that one scholar who did not know the passing time watched Taoist hermits with supernatural powers playing paduk from heaven. Mysterically, It rises 264m from the sea. It's name means 9 beautiful peaks which look like the Oriental paintings on a folding screen. There is another legend that immortals with supernatural powers attracted by its beauty came down to the mountain to enjoy it Since then, it is known as Shinson summit and Shinson rock.

In the South, Kapchon and it's cliff add to the beauty of the mountain. Azeleas, Cherry blossoms, green tres, and autumn tints also escalate the marvelous view of the mountain. Kubong trail was completed in 1993. It has hiking road guidposts and benches which offer the citizens a good testing place.

Way to Daejeon

1. From Incheon International Airport

The best way is to use the Limousine Bus.
If you go outside the terminal building in the 1st floor, you will be able to find many bus stops.
The bus for daejeon will stop at bus stop no. 3 and 16. Interval is 60-90 mins and it takes about 3 hours from the airport to Daejeon. And the fare is 13,400 Won(about 10.50 US dollars).

2.Bus guideline

There are two express bus terminals in Seoul. And you can choose Daejeon or Yusong as a destination.

Kangnam express bus Terminal
Seoul to Daejeon(every 5-10 mins.) - 2 hours
Seoul to Yusong(every 30 Minutes) - 2 hours

Dong Seoul Terminal
Seoul to Daejeon(every 10 mins.) - 2 hours
Seoul to Yusong(every 30 Minutes) - 1 hour & 50 minutes required

3. Train

Seoul railway station to Daejeon(every 30 mins) - 1 hours and 30 mins
